LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Momentum for strengthening Florida’s workforce talent pipeline through industry-focused sector strategies is building as CareerSource Florida leads a series of technical assistance workshops throughout the state.
CareerSource Florida hosted the South Florida Sector Strategies Technical Assistance Workshop last week at the Public Safety Training Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth. This second workshop in a series of four around Florida highlighted successful industry sector-based approaches and practices for workforce development. Participants engaged a panel of marine and maritime industry professionals in a sector partnership discussion and worked together to identify steps for moving sector strategies forward in their region.
“With more than 100 employers, educators, workforce developers, economic developers and other key stakeholders in attendance, we’re very pleased with the strong turnout,” said Andra Cornelius, CEcD, Senior Vice President of Business and Workforce Development at CareerSource Florida. “We are excited to expand the momentum for sector strategies throughout the state.”
Research from similar efforts nationally shows sector strategies strengthen the participating businesses, the industries involved and the workforce as a whole by shifting workforce development from a supply-driven to a demand-driven approach to meeting business needs.
“We were very pleased to be part of this statewide initiative led by CareerSource Florida to better align workforce development with our economic development, education, business and community partners to strengthen the talent pipeline and enhance our industry sector strategies,” said CareerSource Palm Beach County President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Craig. “We also appreciate the input from our partners on what is working well, reviewing best practices and looking for additional ways to improve our collaboration to help connect businesses with the qualified talent they need to be successful in today’s business environment.”
