On July 8, 2026, FloridaCommerce was awarded $40 million by the U.S. Department of Labor to support nationwide efforts to expand apprenticeships with deliberate focus on maritime industrial shipbuilding— and also targeting aerospace and aviation, defense, advanced manufacturing, construction industry trades and other ship-and boat-building trade sectors—with nearly 80 partners across the state offering Letters of Support for Florida’s application.

This program, administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, will assist CareerSource Florida and FloridaCommerce in leading efforts to promote training nationally for highly skilled, in-demand jobs with an emphasis on supporting the nation’s defense industrial base, including advancing America’s Maritime Action Plan. This performance-based model directly links federal funding to measurable outcomes, providing incentive payments to Registered Apprenticeship sponsors as their apprentices reach verified retention and progression milestones.
