Tallahassee, FL – CareerSource Florida has announced the annual assignment of letter grades to the state’s 24 local workforce development boards. Using criteria established by the Governor’s Reimagining Education and Career Help (REACH) Office, and data from the 2022-23 fiscal year, the grades were announced during the October 12 meeting of the state workforce board’s Executive Committee. Of the 24 local workforce development boards, 19 received As and five received Bs.
Letter grades assess each local workforce development board’s performance to drive improvements that will benefit Florida’s job seekers, workers, and businesses. The CareerSource Florida network continues to demonstrate greater transparency and accountability since letter grades, required under the 2021 REACH Act, were first issued to local workforce development boards last fall.
“The REACH Act creates a stronger and more efficient workforce system that empowers Floridians to thrive in their careers and businesses,” said Stephanie Smith, chair of the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors. “A vital component is the letter grade system that serves as a standardized, statewide assessment of how well our network performs in providing high-quality workforce development services to Floridians.”
“As we continue to implement the Florida Workforce System Transformation Plan, letter grades aid local workforce development boards in identifying areas of excellence and opportunities for enhancements,” said CareerSource Florida President and CEO Adrienne Johnston. “The goal is to streamline and improve the state’s workforce and education efforts, aligning them more closely with the needs of the communities we serve.”
Metrics used to calculate letter grades include how well local workforce development boards are meeting federal accountability measures, the number of job seekers who receive work-related training, the number of participants who earn more in the second quarter after receiving workforce services, the number of employers who return for business services, and the reduction in the number of participants on long-term public assistance.
