Tallahassee, Fla. – CareerSource Florida today highlighted the commitment to workforce education and training in the 2022-2023 state budget, recently signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, which will help more Floridians and businesses prosper as the state’s economy continues to grow.
The new state budget includes $10.5 million for two workforce training grants administered by CareerSource Florida that support business growth and expansion as well as employee retention in today’s rapidly evolving global market.
“Florida’s growing economy continues to outpace the nation’s, and the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors is grateful to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for prioritizing funding for workforce training and education to ensure our workforce can meet the needs of our new and existing employers,” said CareerSource Florida Board Chair Stephanie Smith. “This investment will provide additional training resources that help companies of all sizes stay competitive and help their employees gain skills needed for in-demand occupations.”
The state budget signed includes:
- $7.5 million for Quick Response Training – administered by CareerSource Florida, this grant program provides a reimbursement match for customized training to new or expanding businesses needing to train new hires.
- $3 million for Incumbent Worker Training – administered by CareerSource Florida, this grant program helps provide employees with opportunities to acquire new or improved skills by earning a credential on Florida’s Master Credentials List, helps hospitals provide nurses with opportunities to acquire new or improved skills, and supports training for current employees at businesses with 25 or fewer employees, in rural or urban distressed areas, and in qualified target industries.
