Tallahassee, Fla. – The CareerSource Florida Board of Directors today applauded Governor Ron DeSantis for prioritizing the availability of and access to workforce training for rewarding careers in his proposed Framework for Freedom Budget.
The Governor’s budget proposal includes continued funding of $10.5 million for two workforce training grants administered by CareerSource Florida that help businesses of all sizes, both new and existing, start up, expand and stay competitive:
- $7.5 million for Quick Response Training – Administered by CareerSource Florida, this grant program provides reimbursement for customized training to new or expanding businesses to train new hires for high-wage, high-demand jobs in targeted industries.
- $3 million for Incumbent Worker Training – Administered by CareerSource Florida, this grant program helps businesses provide employees with training to acquire new or improved skills. Grants are available for specialized training for current employees at existing businesses, with a priority for those with 25 or fewer employees in rural or urban distressed areas, in qualified target industries.
“The bold leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis has resulted in low unemployment and a red-hot labor force growth rate of 3.5%, more than double the national growth rate of just 1.6%,” said CareerSource Florida Board Chair Stephanie Smith. “By prioritizing the availability of workforce training, the Governor further strengthens Florida’s business climate and ensures more Floridians can access training to get and keep great jobs.”
