CareerSource Florida was notified May 16, 2019, by the state workforce system’s administrative and fiduciary agency, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, that DEO had received the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration Compliance Review of CareerSource Tampa Bay and CareerSource Pinellas.
DEO’s Inspector General launched an investigation of both local workforce development boards in January 2018. The USDOL review and DEO investigation are of records and procedures under the tenure of the former president and CEO of both boards, Edward Peachey. Peachey’s employment was terminated by both boards following the allegations.
The CareerSource Florida Board pledges its full support to DEO, which is leading the state response to the USDOL Compliance Review. The state board also recognizes CareerSource Pinellas CEO Jennifer Brackney and CareerSource Tampa Bay CEO John Flanagan for the work they and their teams are doing to implement comprehensive reform.
Last fall, the state board approved the CareerSource Florida Ethics and Transparency Policy, which requires state and local workforce boards to create and enforce policies related to the importance of ethics in operations and transparency in public meetings. Boards must ensure these policies align with federal and state laws and communicate clear expectations to board members, their designees, employees and other stakeholders.
The CareerSource Florida network is committed to ensuring Florida’s public workforce system fulfills its mission with integrity, accountability and transparency.
