Tallahassee, Fla.– Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 426 , An Act Relating to Economic Development. The new law supports rural economic development and emphasizes the authority of the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors to shape workforce policy in alignment with the Governor’s vision for Florida’s future.

Specific to the state workforce system, the new law underscores the responsibility of the business-led state workforce board to drive real-time solutions based on its direct knowledge and deep understanding of business needs and the economic landscape of Florida. This law entrusts the CareerSource Florida professional team with administering the board’s actions and vision and modifies the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s roles and responsibilities to address federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act requirements.

Earlier this month, the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors unanimously approved Strategic Policy 2020.06.04.A.2, Board Roles and Responsibilities, updating and delineating the roles and responsibilities of the state board within the state’s workforce system in accordance with state and federal law.
