“House Bill 1271, an act relating to state economic development entities, and its companion legislation, Senate Bill 1244, would modify the roles and responsibilities of the CareerSource Florida Board of Directors, CareerSource Florida staff and DEO to address requirements in the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
“The bill provides changes to emphasize state workforce development board responsibilities and assigns new responsibilities to DEO. However, the bill maintains the current operating and governance structure of Florida’s workforce system — the state policy board, appointed by the Governor and Legislature; a dedicated CareerSource Florida staff to support the state board; DEO, which is responsible for the system’s fiscal and administrative affairs; and 24 local workforce development boards, responsible for the delivery of services to businesses and career seekers.
“We look forward to building on the strong record of leadership, collaboration and achievement of the business-led state board as we advance the priorities of Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature and further strengthen the integrity and accountability of the workforce system.”
