Thousands to be Connected with Info and Resources in Orlando this June 7-9

According to available data, more than 60 percent of Floridians with disabilities, representing more than 700,000 potential employees, are not participating in the workforce. With Florida’s tight labor market, the significant population of people with disabilities represent a great potential source of employees for the state’s businesses.

To help promote employment among Floridians with disabilities, CareerSource Florida is proud to once again partner with Florida nonprofit organization The Family Café as they host The 21st Annual Family Café this June 7-9 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando.

The Annual Family Café is a large statewide cross-disability event, drawing more than 11,000 attendees, that brings together information and resources for people with disabilities and their families. As part of the organization’s efforts to provide a space for networking, information exchange, and access to resources, The Family Café places a significant emphasis on employment.

“People with disabilities are fully capable of being employed, and deserve the chance to enjoy the benefits of having meaningful work,” said Family Café President and CEO Lori Fahey. “We are very pleased to once again have our partners from CareerSource Florida on hand to help promote disability employment at The Annual Family Café this year.”

Through its partnership with The Family Café, CareerSource Florida will deliver several presentations as part of an “Employment Track” and engage with attendees at multiple booth spaces in the exhibit hall at The 21st Annual Family Café,

The Annual Family Café also provides a venue for The Annual Governor’s Summit on Disabilities, where Florida’s governor and state agency leaders share their vision for the state’s citizens with disabilities, and promote their ability to participate in the workforce.

CareerSource Florida President and CEO Michelle Dennard acknowledged the value of partnering with The Family Café, saying “The CareerSource Florida network is proud of its partnership and continuing participation in this important event. A diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to our state’s increasing competitiveness. We all benefit when Floridians who want a job are able to work and be more self-sufficient.”

Efforts to promote disability employment are also supported locally by CareerSource Central Florida. “Our collaboration with The Family Café is one of our most valued partnerships,” stated President and CEO of CareerSource Central Florida, Pamela Nabors. “Closing the employment gap between Americans with and without disabilities is essential and this annual event helps achieve that goal. Recruiting, training and employing individuals with disabilities generates a broader pool of skilled workers in a competitive workforce.”

The Family Café has been connecting Floridians with disabilities and their families with information, training and networking opportunities since 1998. Its signature event, The 21st Annual Family Café, which takes place at The Hyatt Regency in Orlando on June 7-9, will host more than 11,000 registered attendees.
